A passion for going places and learning new things compelled Kalia Wright to realize her dream early in life. This AAA Travel Agent in Aiken, South Carolina, didn’t miss a beat, and began her AAA Travel career fresh out of high school.

What inspired you to become a travel agent?

As a child, my grandma always took me on road trips during vacations from school. The excitement of those trips has lived on in me ever since. I knew that with my love of details and travel, I wanted to help others to experience the same joy!

How long have you worked with AAA?

Almost seven years. Working for AAA is truly a one-of-a-kind experience! I look forward to coming to work and interacting with my coworkers and clients. It feels all like one big family. No matter where you turn, you know everyone has your back!

What do you like most about your job?

I love that every day is a new adventure! I never know what my clients are going to want to do next. I thrive on all the little details of making sure everything on their list is checked off.

What types of trips do you book the most?

I specialize in European river cruises, Alaska cruise tours and Disney family vacations. My favorite things to help plan are those that include extra features to make the trip special and one of a kind.

What’s your most memorable travel experience?

My trip to Alaska in May 2019. I wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy it because I’m not an outdoorsy person. Alaska, though, is special. When you travel there, you truly do leave a piece of your heart there you’ll never get back. The views are breathtaking, the weather is perfect and the people are friendly. Everyone should have a chance to visit Alaska in their lifetime!

How has COVID-19 changed your business?

The biggest change since COVID-19 has been to how I interact with my clients. I’m a very friendly and outgoing person. I love the personal interactions from hugs, handshakes and smiles. Not being able to do that has required me to get creative in how I greet others. I’ve been fist and elbow bumping a lot. I also use my big “Southern” welcome with my greetings — saying “Hello, Darling!”

Where are your clients traveling to in 2021?

My clients in 2021 have travel plans across the world. There is a lot of focus on trips close to home, though. I’ve seen some great deals for cruises, as well as trips out to the west to visit U.S. National Parks.

Do you have any personal trips planned for 2021?

Currently I don’t have any, but I’m looking into taking a trip to an all-inclusive to either Mexico or somewhere in the Caribbean. I want to go somewhere relaxing that caters to my every need without having to leave the resort. Simple and easy!
