Japan’s long-in-the-works Studio Ghibli theme park will open in fall 2022. The park was originally scheduled to launch in 2020, but development delays and COVID-19 prompted a delay in schedule. The park is based on the 2002 animated feature “Spirited Away.” The film tells the story of a 10-year-old girl who enters the Japanese spirit world when she moved into a new neighborhood. When her parents are turned into pigs by a witch, the girl must find a way to free her family and return home. The park will be built in the Aichi Prefecture near Nagoya, the location of the 2005 World’s Fair. It will be split into five different worlds, each based on one or more of Studio Ghibli titles.
