Americans took about 700 million trips over the summer, based on economic indicators and state re-openings, according to AAA. The number was down nearly 15 percent compared to last summer. However, booking trends indicated that Americans are making travel plans more spur of the moment. Road trips are extremely popular — accounting for 97 percent of the favored mode of transportation. It’s no wonder — road trips allow travelers to make their own schedule and customize stops based on comfort level and interests. For families, it’s also an easy and less expensive way to travel.
